15.10. - 17.10. Ashtanga Yoga | 18.10. - 21.10. Mysore Style

Workshop mit Shankara Darby in Unterbilk (engl. Sprache)

Whatsoever your experience, this workshop will give you a new vision of Ashtanga Yoga. Shankara has been immersed in a yogic way of life from his earliest age; born into a family of Yogis, In Mysore, India. His open mind, avid curiosity, sincerity and a calling to spiritual evolution have brought him to visit many traditions and to distil a common essence.  Based on the Ashtanga method, Shankara will share principles equally relevant to the Asana practitioner or to someone developing their Qui Gong practice.

Being Shankara’s first visit to Germany, this workshop will be an opportunity to explore basic principles; those that follow us all along our path.

We will explore:
- Breath, Bandha
- The art of Vinyasa
- Deepening of the Asana
- Preventing injuries

His teachings have brought him to travel around the world and most recently to guide students through year long Ashtanga trainings alongside his father, Darby.

Friday 15th October – Sunday  17th  October
Friday
6.30 – 9.30 pm

Saturday and Sunday
9.00 – 12.00 am
1.30 – 4.30 pm

Friday - Breath
A session to deepen our understanding of breath. This is the foundation of the practice, and, as such, a great way to begin the week end. We will learn to work intuitively, discovering what truly works oneself. Finished with so many contradictory instructions, we can trust our own practice. The focus will be on becoming more sensitive to the breathing mechanism, to open our lung capacity and to strengthen the breath.

Saturday morning - Bandha

As with Breath, Bandha can be learnt intuitively. We will be given the opportunity to return to our sensitivity in the prescribed areas of our bodies and to learn about the subtle mechanism involved with each Bandha. A vision of alignment will be explored where the energetic directions will be taken into consideration. All the better, this is directly related to our breath. As such, return to simplicity, 99% practice, 1% theory.

Saturday afternoon - Working with physical and energetic blockages.
The practice of Asana is said to re-establish the harmony of body and mind. In its conception, it was aimed at an Indian body and lifestyle. This session will be an effort to prepare the “western” body for a Yoga practice. This can allow one to prevent many hardships and injuries which are so frequent in the practice of asana today. The exercises will be chosen based on a long study of the meridians of Acupuncture.

Sunday Morning - Led Primary and Yoga Nidra.
Shankara will guide the primary series, placing the emphasis on application of the principles explored previously throughout the weekend. Many challenges will be brought about by the constant reminder: Return to the basics. Through this, many will come to appreciate the enormous potential available within this simple sequence of asana.
This will be followed by a 45 minute Savasana. A process of exceptional value! A mix of words, silences and music to allow you to experience a space of peace and well being.

Sunday afternoon - An exploration of individual poses from the primary series.

Many question themselves as to how to become more flexible… but too flexible? The duality of stiffness and suppleness will be explored. How the asana could bring these two polarities, present within each of us, to a state of harmony. Too often, during our asana practice, the breath is troubled, the body tense… The instruction will be to allow for the alignment that will never compromise the breath or Bandha, and to re-establish the balance of body and mind.
